WebFeb 21, 2024 · Legal max gross here is 140k, pulling a six axle trailer. When turning tight corners it's not uncommon to lift the front two axles, that transfers massive amounts of weight to the drives and I have never seen an axle housing crack. I'm talking 50-60k on the drives, possibly more, but only for short periods of time. Webexperienced by the axle housing will result in deformation, cracking, and even fractured. Based on the case of failure, an analysis of the axle housing was performed which covers two things, namely stress analysis and crack analysis. Axle housing analysis uses the Finite Element Method (FEM) approach, through the Ansys software.

This crack goes around the top of housing which makes it nearly impossible to resolve the issue by welding. Once cast cracks around the square tube it is fruitless to try.
